What Are CD Wicks?
CD wicks, also referred to as Stabilo wicks, are flat braided cotton wicks with thin paper threads woven into the braid. The paper reinforcement gives the wick structural rigidity without the use of a metal core, making CD wicks lead and zinc free. The rigid structure keeps the wick upright during pouring and maintains a centered position in a deep melt pool, which reduces off-center burns and uneven wax consumption on production runs. CD wicks are particularly well suited for natural and semi-natural waxes including soy, coconut, and soy-paraffin blends, where softer, more viscous wax requires a wick with enough structural integrity to resist bending under heat. The flat braid construction also supports consistent burn performance at higher fragrance loads, which is relevant for candle brands running fragrance oil concentrations above 8%. Supplied pre-tabbed with a steel wick tab crimped at the base, CD wicks are ready for immediate use without additional preparation on the production line.
